I have some family recipes for cobbler then I also have some cobbler recipes that I find in books/magazines or online. This one is not my family recipe that I got from my grandma but it sure tastes just as good (shhh! Don't tell grandma I said that). I love being able to throw ingredients together in my crock pots and have meals ready to go when we want them with as few dirty dishes and little work as possible and still get that homemade flavor and taste.
This cobbler recipe is pretty easy. It only has 4-5 ingredients and cooks easily in a 4, 5 or 6 qt size slow cooker. The round 4 qt size does better with 1 can of pie filling and half the dough mixture where the larger oval shaped cookers do well even with a double recipe. I made a cherry cobbler in my 6 qt oval cooker with a double recipe and made a peach cobbler in my 4 qt round and had to use less dough to make sure the fruit to dough ratio was pretty equal.
Easy Crock Pot Cobbler recipe
Ingredients:
1 (21 oz) can fruit pie filling (flavor of your choosing) Cherry and peach are 2 that I make often
1 (18 ¼ oz) box yellow cake mix
1 (½ cup) stick of butter- melted
1 Tbs Vanilla extract
⅓ cup chopped walnuts- optional
Directions:
Pour the can of pie filling in to your slow cooker (to us southern gals they are all called crock pots).
In a medium or large bowl mix together the cake mix, melted butter and vanilla to form a dough.
Try to crumble the cake mix dough over the pie filling. If you use a smaller size pot then you'll want to use only about half of the dough but if you use a larger pot and use 1 or 2 cans of pie filling you can crumble the entire amount of the dough on top of your filling. Now the dough will not rise up like a cake in a oven so don't worry it wont rise out of the cooker.
If you choose to add the walnuts you can sprinkle them on top of the crumbled dough. I usually leave them out but not always. I guess it depends on what pie filling Im using at the time.
Put the lid on your crock pot and set it to cook on low 3-4 hours or on high for 2 hours.
This cobbler is best served hot and with some vanilla ice cream 😀
