I am an ambassador for Busch Gardens Williamsburg and received free admission for this trip to the (16th annual) Howl O Scream event at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Last year was my first experience of Busch Gardens Williamsburg Howl O Scream. The theme for Howl O Scream this year is Cursed. You can hear the song of the curse. The majority of Howl O Scream is the same as last year with a couple new additions.
What is Howl O Scream? Busch Gardens Williamsburg takes the amusement park and come sunset (about 6:30pm) the park is more for adults than young children. You have a few rides running during the day and a couple coasters but the main attractions of Busch Gardens during Howl O Scream are the three Halloween inspired shows to sit and watch, five scare zones (aka Terror-tories) and 6 haunted trails/mazes to enjoy along with 2 dinner (all you can eat buffet) shows to choose from and multiple bars you can stop at for drinks and light up cups throughout the park.
I arrived to the park at 2pm and our first stop was the newly added attraction (meal and a show) of Igor's Fright Feast at Igor's Lounge (located inside castle O'Sullivan) for a late lunch (all you can eat buffet). You'll find Igor, Swampy and a couple pink haired nurses at Igor's Lounge. The sign had adult and child pricing on the menu but I would not have been comfortable having my sons with me at this show. It was full of adult humor and jokes and nurses in short skirts and thigh highs. I enjoyed it but again not all that child friendly in my opinion. Maybe I'm a prude but you have been warned. Igor's Fright Feast offers an indoor buffet where as Blood Banquet is an outdoor buffet. Comparing the price and menus of both buffets I prefer Blood Banquet over Igor's Lounge as long as the weather is suitable for eating outdoors.
After Igor's Lounge we set off to enjoy the rest of the evening. Howl O Scream is fun during day light but once the sun sets and the moon rises Howl O Scream is a lot more enjoyable. The darkness sets the mood for all the fun. There are light up pumpkins, smoke, demons and monsters everywhere and not being able to see like you would during the day makes going through the haunted houses and mazes easier for you to be scared.
I highly recommend seeing the show Monster Stomp on Ripper Row located in the Globe Theater. Monster Stomp was my favorite show of Howl O Scream. I was expecting just a regular show but the special effects they add for the audience was a very nice touch.
Other than the Igor's Fright Feast new addition there is another new addition to Howl O Scream this year is the terror-tory Wendigo Woods located in what is usually known as New France. We walked through Wendigo Woods during day light and we were a bit confused as to what was happening here but made a walk back around once it was dark and realized visiting Wendigo Woods is much more enjoyable after dark.
I think Busch Gardens Williamsburg will have another successful year of Howl O Scream. Though some were not happy about the severed heads throughout the park (which the park gladly removed them given some recent current events) and others had something to say about there not being much new to see I, for one, was very pleased with our trip to Busch Gardens Williamsburg Howl O Scream 2014 and am looking forward to what they can dig up for next year.
