Norah Jones' new album ...Featuring hits store shelves today. I have had a copy of ...Featuring for a couple weeks now. I mentioned listening to the new album a couple days ago on Facebook and Twitter. I listen to a variety of types of music so to have an artist have an album that has jazz, country, hip hop and rock all in one I figured I would enjoy ...Featuring. I was right!
...Featuring is a collaboration of Norah's music from the last decade. The 18 songs on the album includes legends such as Ray Charles, Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. She also worked with 21st century icons like OutKast and the Foo Fighters. Recorded from 2001 to 2010, the cameos, duets and collaborations on this album span the musical spectrum and show Norah Jones to be a very diverse musical connector. Three of the songs on …Featuring originally appeared on records that won Grammy awards for Album of the Year (Ray Charles’ Genius Loves Company, Herbie Hancock’s River: The Joni Letters, and OutKast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below), and several others were also nominated for Grammys. The album also includes recordings by some of Jones’s own bands and side projects (The Little Willies and El Madmo), and performances with artists that she’s toured with including M. Ward, Sasha Dobson, and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Songs on …Featuring range from classics recorded by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Joni Mitchell, and Roy Orbison to new material by such wide-ranging innovators as Ryan Adams and Q-Tip.
I think Norah Jones is amazing with her soulful sound and I find the majority of her music soothing. I have to say my favorite song of the new album is #1 Love Me, though I dont think there is a song that I didn't like. No matter who she is singing with I think that Jones' voice is the most compelling element. I think Norah's album ...Featuring is a must listen. Either on a car ride or lounging around the house ...Featuring has a sound for just about everyone.
