Bear with me this was my first public video review. Dont be to harsh on me please, I get nervous talking to an audience and knowing that people may be picking me and my video apart.
The Baby Store Plus has been meeting a Mothers needs with quality, value and variety in south west Colorado since Feb. 2008. Don't live in Colorado? No problem. The Baby Store Plus also has an online store. You can visit The Baby Store Plus online shopping site for baby products, Moms & Moms to Be, On the go gear, breastfeeding and babywearing Moms. The Baby Store Plus is also going more green! They are wanting to spread the word about going green by carrying and promoting cloth diapers and CD supplies. They have all ready put GroVia diapers and accessories and Bum Essentials diapers and bags in the store! To keep the Green theme going, Anna and The Baby Store Plus have made several changes in the store that they believe helps in this effort of going green: they re-use clean, used packing materials whenever possible and they are now using software that allows them to save documents in data files on the computer rather then printing every invoice, receipt, or other documents that they need to keep. Way to go green Anna!
The Baby Store Plus sent us a Bum Essentials Bumbino All In 2 (AI2) cloth diaper in Rockin Red along with the Terry Towel Bum Pad. The Bumbino has the ease of an all in one diaper (AIO), and the flexible absorption capability of a pocket diaper yet it is neither. The Bum Essentials Bumbino is a two-piece, reusable cloth diaper system (aka a hybrid diaper) and is also a one size diaper (it should fit most babies from 8 to 34 lbs). That means that you can buy more Bum Pads and less shell covers to get more use out of 1 diaper. You can get the Bum Pads (inserts) in either Classic (all natural bamboo and cotton) or the Terry Towel (has a bit of polyester added to the cotton/ bamboo). No matter which Bum Pad you choose they both snap to the Bumbino shell with only 2 snaps in the front of the diaper. I think that's awesome so you don't have to try pulling snaps from the rear of the diaper when you have to change a pooped in diaper. You can snap in just the soaker or snap the booster to the soaker and snap them both to the Bumbino shell for extra absorbency. The way the Bumbino is shown below is how The Baby Store Plus ships out all their orders. They include a 2/4 load sample of Rockin Green Cloth Diaper & Laundry detergent. They also include store ink pens in the paid orders. They are running a Lucky Pen promotion. If your ink pen has a special code on it you get a special discount good all year long to the online store.
The Bumbino shell has an inner layer of microfleece and the shell is the waterproof PUL. You can get the Bumbino in Rockin Red, Bumble Blue, Giddy Up Green and Sunshine Yellow. The snaps on the diaper for the soaker attachment are only attached to the microfleece. I'm afraid that the snaps will tear out if I put the Bumbino is the wash without removing the soaker. I'm forgetful sometimes and I dont want to tear the diapers. Maybe if the snaps had a piece of PUL that they were also attached to that the tearing would be more less likely to happen. Just remember to remove the soaker/ booster from the shell before washing so you don't pull the snaps off. The Bumbino has elastic in both the front and the back of the diaper. This, I think, is one of my most favorite things about the Bumbino. Baby B sometimes would pee out the top of his diapers when he was laying on his belly. Some diapers gap in the front sometimes which leads to pee belly. Since Baby B is a whopping 35 lbs I was afraid he would be to big for the Bumbino diaper. The front elastic is so snug it would roll the front of the diaper inward just a little but once I adjusted it, it fit him just fine for his size. We had no leaking at any time while using the Bumbino. I knew the fit would be snug since Baby B does weigh 35 lbs so the elastic can't give but so much for him 😉
My over all ratings of the Bum Essentials Bumbino AI2?
Day time use: A+
Nap time use: A+
Night time use: A+
Over all fit: A+
Overall Ease of Use: A+ These diapers are Daddy, Grandma and Babysitter friendly!
Price: A+
The Baby Store Plus carries the Bum Essentials Bumbino AI2 for $19.99 and extra Bum Pads for $9.50. If you used the Bumbino as a single use diaper a stash of 24 would be about $479.76 or if you used them the hybrid way and bought 8 diapers along with 16 additional inserts it would cost about $311.92. Yes you can get disposable diapers on sale at CVS or Amazon but cloth is the more green way to go and if you bought disposables at regular price they'd cost around $800 per year where the cloth diapers would be $479 for multiple years and for even multiple children!
As with some other cloth diapers the Bum Essentials has some features I adore and some I think could use some tweaking. I would attach the snaps on the shell with PUL and the micro fleece. If the shell is to be reused I prefer the shell to be able to be wiped off and reused. I'm not sure how I feel about reusing the microfleece since it has no stay dry abilities but I have done it. I just let it air dry between uses on the occasion that the shell actually got a little bit wet. The good out weigh the bad for me though so I do suggest you give the Bum Essentials Bumbino AI2 a try. I look forward to sharing this diaper with my SIL for my nephew and then using it later on IF we have more children.
